2. The town is located in the Warrumbungle Shire and is surrounded by the stunning Warrumbungle National Park, which boasts a range of hiking trails, camping grounds, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
3. Coonabarabran has a rich Aboriginal history, and the town's name is derived from the Gamilaroi word "gunbaraaybaa" which means "excrement of the bora ground". The Gamilaroi people are the traditional custodians of the land on which Coonabarabran sits.
4. The town has a long history of farming, with agriculture being the main source of income for many of the residents. Coonabarabran is particularly well-known for its wheat farms, with the town playing a major role in the Australian wheat industry.
